How to Get Motivated

pinky In 1993, there was a cartoon named Pinky and the Brain, they were a recurring segment on the show Animaniacs.

Pinky and Brain are genetically enhanced laboratory mice who reside in a cage in the Acme Labs research facility. In each episode, Brain devises a new plan to take over the world, which ultimately ends in failure; but it didn’t matter how many times their plan failed, Brain never gave up, he was determined to realize his dream of conquering the world.

Having a dream, a vision of where you want to be is a powerful motivator.

Sometimes we are lucky because we have as a given all the energy we need to face life’s challenges; obstacles don’t dismiss our enthusiasm, we are satisfied with life, things may not be perfect but we are happy with them just the way they are.

For example, when we are in love, everything is perfect, nothing seems impossible, trouble just slide down our shoulders and happiness surround us. As Justin Bieber affirms in his song: “As long as you love me”:
“As long as you love me, we could be starving, we could be homeless, we could be broke.
As long as you love me, I’ll be your platinum, I’ll be your silver, I’ll be your gold”.

Also having faith is a huge motivator, people who believe in a power bigger than themselves, something or someone who is protecting, watching and procuring the best of the outcomes, are sure of what they hope will happen, and their faith keeps them strong during adversity.

Sometimes love, faith and dreams are bigger than the obstacles we face, but other times, we aren’t that lucky and our energy dawns, then we need to push ourselves to keep pursing our goals.

Having someone to talk to, someone who encourages us, or somehow recognizes that we make a positive difference in the world, can help us to get started and/or back on track.

Being part of a team can help too. Lets face it, even leaders get tired of responsibility and of making decisions every day. It’s so nice to have someone covering your back, in this way you can take a break every now and then.

But since we can’t always count on having the right person by our side on those moments, other techniques that can help us are:

Believe in yourself: remember a time when you faced an obstacle and you succeeded. This can give you the confidence that you can do it again.

Being able to measure our progress, we can feel that we are getting closer to our goal if we can see immediate results, for example: if we are learning a new language and we have a good vocabulary, we know we are close to be able to have a conversation, that can motivate us to keep learning. seed

Also, having a taste of success motivates to keep going. Running a 5K can motivate me to keep training to run a half marathon.

Finally, we have to keep in mind why we want what we are working for, so we keep focused and motivated to get the goal we are pursuing.

I hope one of these ideas help you get motivated and inspire you to keep working for your goals.

Feeding your Soul

need energy Each day has its challenges, maybe going through the same weekly routine is the first one, and then we can add the specifics: giving a speech, traveling, meeting the sale quota, arriving on time to every appointment, driving from here to there, making and serving dinner, or even going to bed early.

We are constantly in the move and this challenges can wear our spirit with the day-to-day routine. We can become bored, gloomy or just plain tired. So, what can we do to keep our spirit bright?

Besides exercising, enjoying nature and hanging out with friends, I feed my soul with movies, songs and books. Being surrounded by people who make me laugh and believe in me, gives me the energy to keep going.

To have a quick change of mood, music works wonderful. Sometimes when I feel having low energy listening a song that invites me to dance helps me to get started, and then I feel motivated to keep going. Actually I have a CD of happy songs that I hear when I’m feeling down.

I like to listen music that talks about love, success, hope, but also music with sounds of nature can help me relax.

I also like to read motivational quotes and books, and actually I had made reviews on some on them.

Finally I can say that watching movies help too. A couple of movies that have inspired me are:

The pursuit of Happyness: Biographical drama film based on Chris Gardner’s nearly one-year struggle with homelessness. The film features Will Smith as Gardner, and the struggles he faces being a single unemployed dad, while doing his internship in a broker firm, before becoming a successful man who forms a multi-million dollar brokerage firm.

The Vow. Leo (Channing Tatum ) and Paige (Rachel McAdams) are a happy couple. The movie starts with a car accident, where Paige looses the memory of the last four years of her life. She doesn’t remember her life with her husband, so she moves back with her parents and returns to law school. The part that I liked the most is that even she has lost her memory, her true nature survives and even without knowing it, she follows again the path she once chose. happy

These are my tips and tricks that help me have a positive attitude. What else would you add? Which movies have inspired you lately?

Living a Succesful Life

success3 When I think in success, images of movie stars, singers, hosts of T.V. shows or news, and names of presidents come to my mind.

But giving it a second thought, I think nothing defines success better than this poem:

At Peace by Amado Nervo

As I approach my sunset, I bless you, Life,
because you never gave me neither unfilled hope,
nor unfair work, nor undeserved sorrow;

Because I see at the end of my rough journey
that I was the architect of my own destiny;
and if I extracted the sweetness or the bitterness of things,
it was because I put the sweetness or the bitterness in them:
when I planted rose bushes, I always harvested roses.

Certainly, winter is going to follow my youth:
Although you never promised me an eternal spring!

I found without a doubt long my nights of pain;
but you never promised that I’d only have good nights;and in exchange, I had some holy and serene….

I loved, I was loved, the sun caressed my face.
Life, you owe me nothing, Life, we are at peace!

I chose this poem for a recital in my second year of middle school. I selected it mainly because it is short, so I wouldn’t be on stage for a long time; but also because I loved its meaning. sunset1

The first time I read it, I thought:“I really want to feel this way when is my turn to go”. I think that success in life is feeling at peace when we pass away, feeling that we did what we were supposed to do, that we don’t need to come back for more, because we realized our dreams and we don’t need second chances.

I wish you success in everything you do.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

TheAlchemistIt all started with a dream, a shepherd named Santiago had a recurrent dream about a buried treasure, so he decides to visit an old lady that interprets dreams while he is in town.

The old lady sends him to the pyramids of Egypt, she says that if he goes there, he will find his treasure; so he starts his quest with ups, downs and delays. At one point he gets so comfortable that he starts wondering what would happen if he just settles down where he is.

This book talks about dreams, following your intuition, about facing changes and taking chances. It talks about the pain and defeat felt when, despite all your efforts, you are still no way closer to realizing your dream and how a strong desire to give up starts growing inside.

It reflects on “What makes life interesting and what happens if we really do give up”. It also talks about the courage needed to keep pursuing what we want, about overcoming the fear of failure, about faith, trust and confidence.

“The Alchemist is a novel first published in the year 1988, it has been translated into at least 56 languages as of September 2012. The book has gone on to become an international bestseller.

According to Agence France-Press it has sold more than 30 million copies in 56 different languages, becoming one of the best-selling books in history and winning the Guinness World Record for most translated book by a living author”. It is a modern classic universally admired. -Wikipedia-
