How to Get Motivated

pinky In 1993, there was a cartoon named Pinky and the Brain, they were a recurring segment on the show Animaniacs.

Pinky and Brain are genetically enhanced laboratory mice who reside in a cage in the Acme Labs research facility. In each episode, Brain devises a new plan to take over the world, which ultimately ends in failure; but it didn’t matter how many times their plan failed, Brain never gave up, he was determined to realize his dream of conquering the world.

Having a dream, a vision of where you want to be is a powerful motivator.

Sometimes we are lucky because we have as a given all the energy we need to face life’s challenges; obstacles don’t dismiss our enthusiasm, we are satisfied with life, things may not be perfect but we are happy with them just the way they are.

For example, when we are in love, everything is perfect, nothing seems impossible, trouble just slide down our shoulders and happiness surround us. As Justin Bieber affirms in his song: “As long as you love me”:
“As long as you love me, we could be starving, we could be homeless, we could be broke.
As long as you love me, I’ll be your platinum, I’ll be your silver, I’ll be your gold”.

Also having faith is a huge motivator, people who believe in a power bigger than themselves, something or someone who is protecting, watching and procuring the best of the outcomes, are sure of what they hope will happen, and their faith keeps them strong during adversity.

Sometimes love, faith and dreams are bigger than the obstacles we face, but other times, we aren’t that lucky and our energy dawns, then we need to push ourselves to keep pursing our goals.

Having someone to talk to, someone who encourages us, or somehow recognizes that we make a positive difference in the world, can help us to get started and/or back on track.

Being part of a team can help too. Lets face it, even leaders get tired of responsibility and of making decisions every day. It’s so nice to have someone covering your back, in this way you can take a break every now and then.

But since we can’t always count on having the right person by our side on those moments, other techniques that can help us are:

Believe in yourself: remember a time when you faced an obstacle and you succeeded. This can give you the confidence that you can do it again.

Being able to measure our progress, we can feel that we are getting closer to our goal if we can see immediate results, for example: if we are learning a new language and we have a good vocabulary, we know we are close to be able to have a conversation, that can motivate us to keep learning. seed

Also, having a taste of success motivates to keep going. Running a 5K can motivate me to keep training to run a half marathon.

Finally, we have to keep in mind why we want what we are working for, so we keep focused and motivated to get the goal we are pursuing.
