The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

TheAlchemistIt all started with a dream, a shepherd named Santiago had a recurrent dream about a buried treasure, so he decides to visit an old lady that interprets dreams while he is in town.

The old lady sends him to the pyramids of Egypt, she says that if he goes there, he will find his treasure; so he starts his quest with ups, downs and delays. At one point he gets so comfortable that he starts wondering what would happen if he just settles down where he is.

This book talks about dreams, following your intuition, about facing changes and taking chances. It talks about the pain and defeat felt when, despite all your efforts, you are still no way closer to realizing your dream and how a strong desire to give up starts growing inside.

It reflects on “What makes life interesting and what happens if we really do give up”. It also talks about the courage needed to keep pursuing what we want, about overcoming the fear of failure, about faith, trust and confidence.

“The Alchemist is a novel first published in the year 1988, it has been translated into at least 56 languages as of September 2012. The book has gone on to become an international bestseller.

According to Agence France-Press it has sold more than 30 million copies in 56 different languages, becoming one of the best-selling books in history and winning the Guinness World Record for most translated book by a living author”. It is a modern classic universally admired. -Wikipedia-
